DESIGN 3

 THE THIRD DESIGN

FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS

Following your dreams is one of the most important things a person can do, no matter how many times they’re told not to do such a thing. For me, I have followed my dreams of wanting to write for television by choosing to create scripted podcasts, which one has now become award-winning. I expressed my love for my work and my dreams by writing a poem. The original poem was fun, as I put it on a typewriter background, as I wanted to convey something old-school. But for the new design, I decided what if it looked like it was written on a crumpled-up piece of paper, like what if it looked like I crumpled a script out of frustration of rejection, which I have faced many times before. I kept the same font for the poem, which is font that television scripts are written in. And then, I added a title and a by-line, just like they do for television scripts, to really give it some depth. “While the forms of graphic design, like all design, change with the winds of visual culture and technology, the specific function of graphic design remains constant: to communicate messages visually.” (White Space is Not Your Enemy) I pulled this quote because I wanted to express that there is a message being conveyed here, which is that one should always follow their dreams. The design is more than a design…it’s conveying how special dreams can be, and that hopefully no one will ever want to crumple up that piece of paper. With the poem, the old design is to the left, as the new one is placed on the right.
